Build–Buy Index beta
Quarterly, per compute consumer: energized self-owned GW ÷ total consumed GW, scaled 0–100. 100 = builds everything it uses; 0 = buys everything.
Methodology caveats (read before citing)
- Scores are computed at build time from Sites + Ledger rows — never hand-entered.
- GW-only basis: dollars never enter the formula. Only energized capacity with a disclosed magnitude counts; an undisclosed energized site makes the whole score "insufficient data" rather than a guess.
- Labs naturally cluster near 0 (they mostly buy) or 100 (a single self-owned site) with tiny denominators — a 100 built on one estimated site is weak evidence.
- Capital-structure outliers (e.g. xAI's affiliated-entity ownership, or DeepSeek's parent-funded compute) blur "self-owned" vs "bought"; treat their scores as indicative only.
- Quarterly cadence; first quarter shown has no prior-score comparison.
